Drat it, I have a conflicting appointment in my calendar, and will miss CANSCAIP’s annual conference, Packaging Your Imagination. They offer a full day program with a choice of workshops by established children’s authors and illustrators. I was particularly looking forward to Kenneth Oppel’s keynote address, plus a session with Paulette Bourgeois (of Franklin the Turtle fame). Rumour has it most presenters bring books for sale and will take a few minutes to offer advice along with an autograph if you pick up a copy. 
Those of you who are in Toronto and anywhere near UofT’s Victoria College on November 7 can probably still register at the door. Check out www.canscaip.org/pyi.html first though.
